Concept art for July CD package

This work in progress is for a project tentatively titled July. My hope is complete and release a six song album by September. The songs will be available to listen to and download online. I also hope to prepare a DVD featuring dual audio tracks for switching between an acoustic version and a fully instrumented, 5.1 surround mix version, along with whatever audio/visual goodies I can manage to produce. Who knows, there might even be a music video Derek Olson and I having discussed making via Dirty Sprocket. But just getting the audio version done is a pretty ambitious goal for me.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy these working versions. All are in various stages of arrangement, editing and recording. No live vocals or non-virtual instruments or performances have been added yet. However, most of the virtual instrumentation heard here will remain as part of the full version.

A third and final component of the July project will be a live performance version, which, if it manifests, will be arranged substantially different.

ALBUM: July (Working title) - 2009

VERSE I
Time bears its full weight on me
Lets down the heavy end before the count of three

Life's lessons they misled you
After 20 years of lies could you see the truth

Harsh memories return as dreams
Leaving little more than tokens that we can't redeem

Someone tricked me not to ask for more
On a blanket in the tall grass on the canyon floor

Can you think of me
As I was younger, strong and free
And I'll think of you
   When worries were so few

July

VERSE II
Faith held you too long, too deep
That when you finally let go there came no relief

Fire flash down the mountainside
Devoured all the trees where my hopes use to hide

Shadows grow long, across as season
   We both unfold
The Fall takes us now
   Even as we vow

BRIDGE
Felt the heat and the flurry of those
Drive-bys we could not resist
Burning bright on our ego fuel, fast
Faster now, baby, can you quicken the distance

 BRIDGE CONTINUED LONG VERSION:
Can not reach what could not be stolen
No, we could not touch less than profound
Couldn't read your just to be mistaken
Can't believe those bastards finally came around

VERSE III
You still here, did we survive
Must have missed the hints that our fates' contrived

We're we friends, yeah, are we still
Or did our fortunes take a marker up on Sundance Hill

Help me move on
And feel the warmth of a new day's sun
You can take my pride
With the moon in that night sky
